PHASE 2: ENDING

I spent last week in beautiful Ft. Meyers where the SJC Softball team competed well against some of the top comp in the country. It was a week of little sleep, warm weather, the sound of aluminum bats, and of course, early morning training. Thanks to the folks at Lee County YMCA, I was able to use my Y membership for their facilities. They opened at 5am and wasn’t really crowded- except for the 6am full-court action in bball- due to the holiday week. I was able to get in a few 3-4hr workouts on consecutive day, do a long swim in the hotel pool, and a few runs in the quiet streets of Ft. Meyers. the sight of the week had to be the old man on the treadmill with his oxygen tank hanging on the side. The team performed much better than last year and we all had a fun time learning about each other and working together. Needless to say, I felt a bit tired on Easter Sunday after our return late Sat night.
Now, with a return to NYC and continuing with a mild week in between phases, I look towards the month of April which will bring my training to its highest level before a 3 week taper for Ironman Japan. On the list is Boston, which I will use as a long run, and the Long Island Half on May 1st which will be a bike-run-bike brick.
It will be intense but will surely prepare me for the task at hand. I am doing well up to this point and simply have to continue.
Let’s hope the weather gets spring-like though I will miss the sun rising before 6am now.
